Circularity Scotland, a new, not-for-profit scheme administrator founded by SBF GB&I, other drinks makers and trade associations has been appointed by the Scottish Government to deliver Scotland's Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).

The news is an exciting and significant step towards realising SBF GB&I’s shared ambition of a truly circular economy in Scotland, where every drinks bottle sold is turned back into another bottle. A move that will help keep a valuable material in circulation and out of the environment.

Through Circularity Scotland, SBF GB&I will work with companies throughout the supply chain – from producers through to hospitality, wholesalers and retailers – to deliver a system that is expected to collect at least 90% of drinks containers across Scotland. In the long term, it is hoped Scotland’s DRS scheme will set a precedent for other countries in its wake.

Our appointment is another positive step forward on the road to a brighter, environmental future for Scotland.

A truly effective Deposit Return Scheme won’t be easy to achieve, but it’s the best way to reduce litter, reduce our carbon footprint and drive the circular economy we all want to see.
